Paper on Wood n.1 It marks the start of the series in 2011: mixed media on paper mounted on wood, 69 × 99 cm, portrait orientation. It is now in a private collection in Rome.
The surface is paper glued to wood, so smooth that the mark glides over it without any friction. The white marks, as fine as a stroke of chalk on a blackboard, make the most of this: they go straight, turn, go back, and repeat themselves until the hand has nothing more to add.

The background is a shade of aqua that fades into brown, with rust-coloured vertical stripes and a few horizontal yellow strokes running downwards. In the upper half, the white tags overlap row upon row, as dense as a page that has been written and rewritten, until no letters can be made out: a pattern remains. Further down, the E’s open out into large circles, becoming increasingly sparse, and the last one, at the bottom right, floats alone on the green. It is the point where the hand slows down.
My style is always the same: a tormented tangle of tags, layered to the point of becoming a texture in which one can only lose oneself. Or, who knows, perhaps find oneself. In my view, to regain clarity and balance, one must first pass through the most chaotic and profound tangle. In this panel, the path is read from top to bottom: chaos above, air below. The green left unobstructed is the breath that follows.
The series continues with the n.2, horizontal, in black and gold, then with the n.3, a mix of sand and black, and stretches as far as the n.4, the only one still available.
